AMD launches Embedded G-Series APUs

AMD has announced the launch of two embedded G-Series APUs. 

The pair are claimed to have up to 39 percent better power savings than their older relations, coming in with with thermal design power (TDP) ratings of 5.5 and 6.4 watts. 

The very low power consumption, plus the fact that they also have small 361mm 2 packages, means that these new products are aimed at compact, fanless embedded systems. 

They fit in nicely with products that use one or two low-power x86 Bobcat CPU cores and a discreet class DirectX(R) 11-capable GPU on a single die.

According to AMD its new babies will allow system designers to be more free with their creations as they won't have to worry so much about heat or size problems. 

Currently, the low power AMD Embedded G-Series devices can be found in an industrial mobile product from Amtek, a Pico-ITX single board computer from Axiomtek and a Qseven form factor computer-on-module from Datakamp.

We can expect lots more from AMD at the Computex trade show, Taiwan. TechEye will report.
